Hi, I'm Tamika James, the founder of sCent Therapy Candle Co. & More!

For years, I worked as a consultant and representative for other companies. I enjoyed the experience, but deep down, I always dreamed of building something of my own. Something I could pour my heart into, watch grow, and one day proudly say, “We built this.”

I just didn't know what that something would be.

For years, my sister-in-law had been making candles and sharing them with our family. What started as thoughtful, handmade gifts eventually sparked something bigger in me. I had always loved being creative, and suddenly, I began seeing those candles a little differently. They weren't just beautiful gifts anymore. They were inspiration.

What if I could turn my love for creativity into something of my own?

Toward the end of 2023, I shared the idea with my husband, Chris. And without hesitation, he was all in.

That was all the encouragement I needed.

We dove into a world we knew very little about. We spent hours exploring Pinterest and Etsy, researching supplies, comparing ideas, and calling my sister-in-law with question after question. There was so much to learn, but with every new discovery, the dream started feeling a little more real.

Then came the moment when we decided to stop researching and start doing.

We invested $550 in fragrance oils, dyes, 50 pounds of wax, and candle containers. We didn't have a storefront or years of experience. What we had was a whole lot of determination and the excitement of finally creating something that was ours.

And just like that, sCent Therapy was born.

But making candles that smelled wonderful wasn't our only priority.

With our little dogs being part of the family and grandchildren coming into our lives, we became more mindful of what we brought into our home. From the very beginning, we wanted to be intentional about our ingredients, choosing soy wax and seeking out fragrances made without phthalates or parabens. We wanted to create something beautiful with our family's well-being in mind.

Even our name carries a piece of our family. The capital C in sCent represents Chris, while the T in Therapy represents Tamika. It's a small detail with a big meaning to us, because this dream has always been something we've shared.

Since those first days, our little business has grown beyond what began at home. From hosting candle parties and building a Facebook community to having our products featured at Craft-ee Crafters in North Topeka, every milestone has meant something special.

And we're not finished dreaming.

One day, we hope to welcome customers through the doors of our very own storefront. A place where people can experience the fragrances, meet the family, and feel the same joy that started this journey.

Until that day comes, every order, every kind word, and every person who chooses our little business means more than you know.
